North Harbour Rugby tournament

Rugby, Rugby, Rugby having two boys playing rugby means that this seems to be what takes up most of our time and energy over winter especially this year with Ds10 having been selected for his clubs rep team.

This week he had training Tuesday, and Thursday, his normal teams game on Saturday and round one of the rep knock-out tournament today.

This morning we had to be up early and drive the 35 minutes to the grounds where the rugby tournament was being hosted ready for weigh in by 8:15am.

Ds10, BabyR and I were all up by 6m. I was cooking a big breakfast while the boys watched a bit of tv. At 6:30am ds10, BabyR and I were eating and the rest of the family joined us at 7am. By 7:45am we were on the road headed to the tournament.

From 8:30 - 9:30 the boys all warmed up and ran through some pre game drills and had a team chat. Within 15 minutes of arrival ds10 had stripped down to his t'shirt whilst the rest of the family were wrapped in multiple layers and were wearing woolen beanies (hats) on their heads too.

It was a bitterly cold windy morning as we all stood on the sidelines watching the warm ups and waiting for the action to get started! (The things we suffer for our kids!)
BabyR was wrapped up in his buggy eating crackers while I hoped he might doze off and stay put.... No such Luck but at least I managed to keep him there for a wee while!

9:30 was kick off time and ds10 took to the field as a lock all 32kg of him. His fiesty temperament makes him a good forward despite his skinny and light weight physique.

By half time they were up 21-0 and ds was subbed off for 5 minutes so got to have a little rest before returning to the field yet again.

The 2nd half was even better for us but terrible for the poor opposition as by the end of the game the final score was 47 - 0 to us.

Being good sports the opposition came and shook hands and congratulated our boys nicely.

What this means is that next Sunday we will be back there again ready for round two of the knock out competition which will probably be a tougher game as the lower teams get knocked out of the competition whenever they lose.

While ds10 was playing in his rugby game ds12 spent time kicking a ball around with another child, dd8 was playing with BabyR 19 months who was refusing to settle down for a nap in his stroller in favour of playing with the numerous rugby balls and tackle pads left lying around.

After the game we all headed home for lunch and then everyone had a rest, nap or some quiet time on the PS3 for a couple of hours. But by 3pm the older 2 boys were off over to the sports field next door to play some more rugby with the neighbourhood kids. We called them home for an early dinner around 5pm and by 7pm ds10 and BabyR were in bed. The other two kids followed at around 8pm and it is now 9pm and all is silent except for dh snores coming from the couch. LOL

Ahhhhh Bliss
